How to make sold out training sessions from important topics? – A story on using made-to-order escape games as teaching platforms.

Teaching new skills and transferring information to someone else is always tough. Especially if the subject is of little to know interest to the person being taught. Boring subject matter is a hard sell to employees and can make a day of training feel an unnecessary burden.

Take Cyber Security as an example. It is of utmost importance for companies to keep their employees up to speed with the company policies. Yet for most employees the idea of learning about how to send encrypted emails or what to do with phishing calls don’t feel like information needed in day to day operations. What if there was way to get your employees excited about refreshing their knowledge on Cyber Security policies or practically anything else important to your company?

Gamifying is becoming a worldwide trend in the way people are taught new information and skills. We have used escape rooms to sharpen up the Cyber Security skills of the employees of Neste and Orion. The game was very highly praised by the employees who got a chance to participate. The training was so popular that it was sold out!

Feedback ranged from “This was so much fun” to “Pampering the employees”. The data we gathered from the games played further helped the company IT departments to identify which parts of the training had been successfully learned and which needed to be repeated to employees. The employees also felt that their employer cares for them and they appreciated the new approach of having fun while learning.

Who are the other companies who’ve used escape games in training?

In 2017 VR used a transportable escape game in their employee training.

In 2018 Veikkaus built an escape room for making sure the responsibility policies are trained throughout the company.

Why and for what should I use our made-to-order escape game?

If you have existing training requirements and you want to make it more appealing, we can help you. Our team is experienced in pedagogical objectives and game design. So far we have designed over a dozen unique escape rooms and have over 40.000+ satisfied teams who have played our games.

We can take your existing material or just your training objectives and turn it into a fun and educational escape game that suits your needs. The games can be used in a pop-up manner from days to weeks or the game and required furniture can be built to be left in the premises of the end customer.

Our professional game masters can be used to run the games or we can train your own staff to do it. We can provide all the necessary hardware and software needed to run the game. The project can be undertaken in a turnkey manner or in co-operation with your company. Which ever suits your needs and budget the best.

I am a huge proponent and enthusiast of different learning environments. When you take the subject being taught out of it’s usual format of a lecture or group task into something that really leaves a mark on ones memory, you are on the right track. Using an gamified elements in teaching makes the process more fun and a lot more memorable. Taking the training into an escape game takes it to another level. Being immersed in the game for a set time under a time limit forces you to think about the task at hand.
